Breast Cancer

by I. Craig Henderson, release date 2015-10-27, Breast Cancer Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Breast Cancer books, Breast Cancer provides an in-depth understanding of the biology of breast cancer, the natural history of the disease, the use of molecular markers, the interpretation of clinical trial data, and the integration of multiple therapeutic modalities. The single most important fact about breast cancer is the great variation in its natural history and its responsiveness to therapy from one patient to another. The clinician must integrate an assessment of the patient's likely course based on clinical and pathological staging and laboratory studies with objective evidence on the benefits of therapy. The primary aim of this book is to provide the clinician with the tools to do just that. Outcomes of clinical trials and details about commonly used drug regimens, drug dosage, and the expected side effects are summarized in generous tables and figures. Medical terminology has been defined and descriptions of the evolution in our thinking and understanding of the disease are often given to provide perspective in the interpretation of evidence from current studies for busy clinicians and trainees alike.

The Biopolitics Of Breast Cancer

by Maren Klawiter, release date 2008, The Biopolitics Of Breast Cancer Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Biopolitics Of Breast Cancer books, For nearly forty years, feminists and patient activists have argued that medicine is a deeply individualizing and depoliticizing institution. According to this view, medical practices are incidental to people’s transformation from patients to patient activists. The Biopolitics of Breast Cancer turns this understanding upside down. Maren Klawiter analyzes the evolution of the breast cancer movement to show the broad social impact of how diseases come to be medically managed and publicly administered. Examining surgical procedures, adjuvant therapies, early detection campaigns, and the rise in discourses of risk, Klawiter demonstrates that these practices created a change in the social relations-if not the mortality rate-of breast cancer that initially inhibited, but later enabled, collective action. Her research focuses on the emergence and development of new forms of activism that range from grassroots patient empowerment to environmental activism and corporate-funded breast cancer awareness. The Biopolitics of Breast Cancer opens a window onto a larger set of changes currently transforming medically advanced societies and ultimately challenges our understanding of the origins, politics, and future of the breast cancer movement. Maren Klawiter holds a PhD in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently pursuing a law degree at Yale University.

Breast Cancer Global Quality Care

by Didier Verhoeven, release date 2019-10-31, Breast Cancer Global Quality Care Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Breast Cancer Global Quality Care books, Developing or existing breast cancer centres strive to provide the highest quality care possible within their current financial and personnel resources. Although the basics in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are well known, providing, monitoring, and assessing the care offered can be challenging for most sites. Based on the work of the International Congress of Breast Disease Centres, this book provides a comprehensive overview of how to start or improve a breast unit wherever you live. Written by a multidisciplinary team of over 100 experts from 25 countries, it provides a practical guide for how to optimally organise high quality integrated breast cancer care, whilst taking into account the local economics and resources available to different countries. Each component of the care pathway, including imaging, surgery, systemic treatment, nursing, and genetic assessment, is discussed from a theoretical and practical aspect. The authors define targets to strive for, methods to assess care, and key recommendations for how to improve within existing limitations. Finally, the book looks beyond the breast care unit to consider accreditation and certification, emerging technologies, media, and the role of governments. This guide will be valuable for anyone working in the field of integrated breast cancer care, including established breast care experts, those new to the field, and policy makers interested in the social, financial, and political aspects of improving breast care quality.
