Edmund Husserl

by Maurice Natanson, release date 1973, Edmund Husserl Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Edmund Husserl books, Winner of the 1974 National Book Award The product of many years of reflection on phenomenology, this book is a comprehensive and creative introduction to the philosophy of Edmund Husserl. Natanson uses Husserl's later work as a clue to the meaning of his entire intellectual career, showing how his earlier methodological work evolved into the search for transcendental roots and developed into a philosophy of the life-world. Phenomenology, for Natanson, emerges as a philosophy of origin, a transcendental discipline concerned with consciousness, history, and world rather than with introspection and traditional metaphysical warfare.

Logic And Time

by K. Michalski, release date 2001-11-30, Logic And Time Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Logic And Time books, The subject of this study is Husserl's theory of meaning, from his critique of psychologism and the theory of meaning that stems from it, through the transcendental theory of meaning of The Idea of Phenomenology, Ideas I and Cartesian Meditations, to the theory of time consciousness and its consequences for Husserl's understanding of meaning. Throughout the study the tension in Husserl's thought between two interpretative strategies, the `Cartesian' and the `Hermeneutical', is brought to the fore.

Interpreting Husserl

by David Carr, release date 1987-07-31, Interpreting Husserl Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Interpreting Husserl books, Edmund Husserl's importance for the philosophy of our century is immense, but his influence has followed a curious path. Rather than continuous it has been recurrent, ambulatory and somehow irrepressible: no sooner does it wane in one locality than it springs up in another. After playing a major role in Germany during his lifetime, Husserl had been filed away in the history-books of that country when he was discovered by the French during and after World War II. And just as the phenomenological phase of French philosophy was ending in the 1960's, Husserl became important in North America. There his work was first taken seriously by a sizable minority of dissenters from the Anglo-American establish ment, the tradition of conceptual and linguistic analysis. More recently, some philosophers within that tradition have drawn on certain of Husserl's central concepts (intentionality, the noema) in addressing problems in the philosophy of mind and the theory of meaning. This is not to say that Husserl's influence in Europe has alto gether died out. It may be that he is less frequently discussed there directly, but (as I try to argue in the introductory essay of this volume) his influence lives on in subtler forms, in certain basic attitudes, strategies and problems.

Political Readings Of Descartes In Continental Thought

by Alon Segev, release date 2019-08-22, Political Readings Of Descartes In Continental Thought Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Political Readings Of Descartes In Continental Thought books, Descartes' philosophy plays a special role in the works of both renowned and marginal writers in the Continental Tradition, particularly in their views on society and politics. This is the first book length study to consider political responses to Descartes in 19th and 20th century European thinkers. Alon Segev shows how on the one hand Continental authors utilize Descartes' philosophy to advance the core ideas of Enlightenment and to combat the movements and systems of Capitalism, Materialism, Absolutism, Fascism, Nazism, and Neo-Paganism; however on the other hand, Segev also demonstrates that Continental authors have also discerned in Descartes' philosophy the main source of all these maladies of modernity. These opposing views are examined as they are unfolded in known and forgotten texts by authors such as Vico, Sorel, Nietzsche, Husserl and Heidegger and by lesser known figures such as Baader, Borkenau and Böhm. By exploring celebrated and overlooked texts and authors, Alon Segev both details the Cartesian influence on the touchstone thinkers of political modernity, and also fills a wide historical gap in the research, providing a significant contribution to the discussion about the crises of the contemporary social and political world. In short, this book enables us, through Descartes, to assess the advantages and shortcomings of modern society.

Edmund Husserl S Phenomenology

by Joseph J. Kockelmans, release date 1994, Edmund Husserl S Phenomenology Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Edmund Husserl S Phenomenology books, Edmund Husserl (1859-1938) has secured a place in the history of Western thought as one of the most influential philosophers of the twentieth century. As the principal architect of phenomenology, he inaugurated a method and conceptual framework that advances inquiries in the fields of logic, epistemology, ontology, ethics, and the philosophy of history. In Edmund Husserl's Phenomenology, Joseph J. Kockelmans provides the reader with a biographical sketch and an overview of the salient features of Husserl's thought. Kockelmans focuses on the essay for the Encyclopedia Britannica of 1928, Husserl's most important effort to articulate the aims of phenomenology for a more general audience. Included are Husserl's text - in the original German and in English translation on facing pages - a synopsis, and an extensive commentary that relates Husserl's work as a whole to the essay for the Encyclopedia. Edmund Husserl's Phenomenology is recommended for graduate courses inphilosophy and psychology and for scholars of other disciplines interested inthe roots of phenomenology and contemporary continental philosophy.
