Fashion And Beauty In The Time Of Asia

by S. Heijin Lee, release date 2019-06-03, Fashion And Beauty In The Time Of Asia Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Fashion And Beauty In The Time Of Asia books, How transnational modernity is taking shape in and in relation to Asia Fashion and Beauty in the Time of Asia considers the role of bodily aesthetics in the shaping of Asian modernities and the formation of the so-called “Asian Century.” S. Heijin Lee, Christina H. Moon, and Thuy Linh Nguyen Tu train our eyes on sites as far-flung, varied, and intimate as Guangzhou and Los Angeles, Saigon and Seoul, New York and Toronto. They map the transregional connections, ever-evolving aspirations and sensibilities, and new worlds and life paths forged through engagements with fashion and beauty. Contributors consider American influence on plastic surgery in Korea, Vietnamese debates about “the fashionable,” and the costs and commitments demanded of those who make and wear fast fashion, from Chinese garment workers to Nepalese nail technicians in New York who are mandated to dress "fashionably." In doing so, this interdisciplinary anthology moves beyond common characterizations of Asians and the Asian diaspora as simply abject laborers or frenzied consumers, analyzing who the modern Asian subject is now: what they wear and how they work, move, eat, and shop.

H M Post Rana Plaza

by David S. Waller, release date 2018, H M Post Rana Plaza Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download H M Post Rana Plaza books, "In 2017, the Swedish-based global clothes retailer H&M was chosen as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies, for the seventh consecutive time, by the Ethisphere Institute. H&M is an example of a "fast fashion" retailer, which produces clothing that is designed quickly and produced cheaply to take advantage of the latest trend, which is then discarded for the next trend. Fast fashion has been heavily criticized for poor business practices, such as outsourcing production to factories overseas with unsafe working conditions, and a number of tragedies have been connected to its lower manufacturing and labor costs. On the other hand, ethical fashion, produced with environmentally friendly materials with workers making the apparel in safe conditions for fair wages, seems at odds with the fast fashion model. While there has been growing interest in ethical fashion among consumers, along with increasing awareness of environmental- and social-based ethically produced clothes, the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh in 2013-which killed more than 1,000 garment workers-brought the world's attention firmly to this issue. Since the tragedy, H&M has spearheaded ethical reforms in the fast fashion industry. This case introduces the concepts of ethical clothing and fast fashion, and examines H&M's efforts to act ethically and sustainably since Rana Plaza, posing the question, 'Can fast fashion ever be truly ethical?'"--Bloomsbury Publishing.

Consumer Awareness And Fast Fashion Information On Consumer Perceptions Of Fashion Retailers

by Una Glennon, release date 2020-10-21, Consumer Awareness And Fast Fashion Information On Consumer Perceptions Of Fashion Retailers Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Consumer Awareness And Fast Fashion Information On Consumer Perceptions Of Fashion Retailers books, Bachelor Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Sociology - Consumption and Advertising, Dublin Institute of Technology, course: International Business, language: English, abstract: This research project explores the consumer awareness of fast fashion amongst Irish consumers aged between eighteen and twentyfive. The aim of this research is to explore the level of awareness consumers have regarding fast fashion. Additionally, it intends to explore what the term “Fast fashion” means to young Irish consumers. Furthermore, this research aims to provide information on consumer perceptions of fashion retailers. Moreover, the research also intends to highlight whether those perceptions play a role in the buyer decision process. The key findings suggest that consumers fail to associate the ethical and environmental concerns that are synonymous with the fast fashion industry. Moreover, the research also exposed a failure that there is a disconnect between the term fast fashion and the manufacturing methods. Fast fashion and sweatshop labour are not mutually exclusive terms yet fast fashion as a term does not seem to carry the burden of its manufacturing origin. It was found that consumers have intentions of shopping more ethically and sustainably. However, there appears to be several misconceptions in what is currently considered ethical fashion among consumers which would affect the consumers ability to make an informed purchase decision. Cognitive dissonance being the act of consumers distancing themselves from purchase decisions that contradict their morals to avoid the feeling of discomfort was evident in this study. This research also found that the practice of greenwashing was present in fast fashion retailers advertising which does not portray the true environmental and social impacts of a product to the consumer.

We Are What We Wear

by Lucy Siegle, release date , We Are What We Wear Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download We Are What We Wear books, Fashion is many things. It is self-expression, big business, trend-setting, a lifestyle choice. But however you see fashion, it relies on one simple characteristic: the incredible speed with which clothes make their journey from the drawing board to the High Street hanger. Fashion is fast. Fast fashion influences the types of garments we have in our wardrobes. It also describes the complex, multi-national supply chain that links the shirt on your back to the crowded, creaking factories in the world’s slums where clothes are made by a workforce numbering in the tens of millions. The manufacturing pressures that come from our deep love of incredibly cheap, incredibly current fashions were shot to global attention in 2013 when the Rana Plaza building in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital city, collapsed in a cascade of tumbling rubble, twisted metal and trapped bodies. Over 1,100 people died, mainly young women. We Are What We Wear is the story of what happened in Bangladesh and how fast fashion has grown to become the giant that it is today. The intimate accounts from the survivors of the collapse are mixed with an exploration of the history of fast fashion and of how the High Street both fuels and satisfies our every fashion wish. Award-winning reporter Jason Burke picks his way through the day of the collapse, while fashion and consumer expert Lucy Siegle looks at what has happened since – and what needs to happen next.
