Smart Adaptive Systems On Silicon

by Maurizio Valle, release date 2013-06-05, Smart Adaptive Systems On Silicon Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Smart Adaptive Systems On Silicon books, Intelligent/smart systems have become common practice in many engineering applications. On the other hand, current low cost standard CMOS technology (and future foreseeable developments) makes available enormous potentialities. The next breakthrough will be the design and development of "smart adaptive systems on silicon" i.e. very power and highly size efficient complete systems (i.e. sensing, computing and "actuating" actions) with intelligence on board on a single silicon die. Smart adaptive systems on silicon will be able to "adapt" autonomously to the changing environment and will be able to implement "intelligent" behaviour and both perceptual and cognitive tasks. At last, they will communicate through wireless channels, they will be battery supplied or remote powered (via inductive coupling) and they will be ubiquitous in our every day life. Although many books deal with research and engineering topics (i.e. algorithms, technology, implementations, etc.) few of them try to bridge the gap between them and to address the issues related to feasibility, reliability and applications. Smart Adaptive Systems on Silicon, though not exhaustive, tries to fill this gap and to give answers mainly to the feasibility and reliability issues. Smart Adaptive Systems on Silicon mainly focuses on the analog and mixed mode implementation on silicon because this approach is amenable of achieving impressive energy and size efficiency. Moreover, analog systems can be more easily interfaced with sensing and actuating devices.

Do Smart Adaptive Systems Exist

by Bogdan Gabrys, release date 2005-05-20, Do Smart Adaptive Systems Exist Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Do Smart Adaptive Systems Exist books, This book is intended as a reference and a guide summarising and focusing on best practices when using intelligent techniques and building systems requiring a degree of adaptation and intelligence. It is therefore not intended as a collection of the most recent research results but a practical guide for experts from other areas and industrial users who are interested in building solutions to their problems using intelligent techniques. One of the main issues covered is an attempt to answer the question of how to select and/or combine suitable intelligent techniques from a large pool of potential solutions. Another attractive feature of the book is that it brings together experts from neural network, fuzzy, machine learning, evolutionary and hybrid systems communities who will provide their views on how these different intelligent technologies have contributed and will contribute to creation of smart adaptive systems of the future. An integration of these communities has been one of the main goals of the European Network of Excellence on Smart Adaptive Systems (EUNITE) within which the idea of compiling such a volume has originated. Over three years of various EUNITE activities focusing on issues of adaptation and intelligent behaviour of computing and engineering systems has also led to posing the question which is the title of this book: Do smart adaptive systems exist?

Smart Cmos Image Sensors And Applications

by Jun Ohta, release date 2017-12-19, Smart Cmos Image Sensors And Applications Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Smart Cmos Image Sensors And Applications books, Because of their high noise immunity and low static power supply drain, complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) devices produce less heat than other forms of logic and allow a high density of logic functions on a chip. These beneficial characteristics have fueled the use of CMOS image sensors in consumer electronics, robot vision, biotechnology, and medicine. With the introduction of smart functions in CMOS image sensors, even more versatile applications are now possible. Exploring this popular technology, Smart CMOS Image Sensors and Applications focuses on the smart functions implemented in CMOS image sensors as well as the applications of these sensors. After discussing the history of smart CMOS image sensors, the book describes the fundamental elements of CMOS image sensors. It covers some optoelectronic device physics and introduces typical CMOS image sensor structures, such as an active pixel sensor (APS). Subsequent chapters elucidate the functions and materials of smart CMOS image sensors and present examples of smart imaging. The final chapter explores various applications of smart CMOS image sensors. Several appendices supply a range of information on constants, illuminance, MOSFET characteristics, and optical resolution. This book provides a firm foundation in existing smart CMOS image sensor technology and applications, preparing you for the next phase of smart CMOS image sensors.

Low Power Analog Cmos For Cardiac Pacemakers

by Fernando Silveira, release date 2004-01-31, Low Power Analog Cmos For Cardiac Pacemakers Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Low Power Analog Cmos For Cardiac Pacemakers books, Low Power Analog CMOS for Cardiac Pacemakers proposes new techniques for the reduction of power consumption in analog integrated circuits. Our main example is the pacemaker sense channel, which is representative of a broader class of biomedical circuits aimed at qualitatively detecting biological signals. The first and second chapters are a tutorial presentation on implantable medical devices and pacemakers from the circuit designer point of view. This is illustrated by the requirements and solutions applied in our implementation of an industrial IC for pacemakers. There from, the book discusses the means for reduction of power consumption at three levels: base technology, power-oriented analytical synthesis procedures and circuit architecture.

Bio Inspired Technologies For The Hardware Of Adaptive Systems

by Mircea Gh. Negoita, release date 2009-03-24, Bio Inspired Technologies For The Hardware Of Adaptive Systems Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Bio Inspired Technologies For The Hardware Of Adaptive Systems books, Evolvable Hardware (EHW) has emerged as a sub-domain of artificial evolution represented by a design methodology (consortium of methods) involving the application of Evolutionary Algorithms (EA) to the synthesis of digital and analogue electronic circuits and systems. Nevertheless, the most benefit for the society and indeed most revolutionizing application of EA is its hardware implementation leading to the EHW. These new EA based methodologies led to a new type of machines that is evolved to attain a desired behaviour, which means they have a behavioural computational intelligence. EHW is a special case of the adaptive hardware, namely being strongly related to the Adaptive Systems (AS) and the Adaptive Hardware (AH). The book presents a careful selection of the field that very well reflects the breadth of this high technology and its terminology and applications in context of the AS/AH. The harmonious symbiosis of the engineering approach and the accurate scientific methodology features the aspects of highly relevant and practical design principles governing the development of EHW and its connections with AS/AH. This book is both attractive and useful for everybody interested in the design and analysis of EHW in context of AS/AH and implementation of real time adaptive hardware hybrid intelligent systems.

Feed Forward Neural Networks

by Anne-Johan Annema, release date 1995-05-31, Feed Forward Neural Networks Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Feed Forward Neural Networks books, Feed-Forward Neural Networks: Vector Decomposition Analysis, Modelling and Analog Implementation presents a novel method for the mathematical analysis of neural networks that learn according to the back-propagation algorithm. The book also discusses some other recent alternative algorithms for hardware implemented perception-like neural networks. The method permits a simple analysis of the learning behaviour of neural networks, allowing specifications for their building blocks to be readily obtained. Starting with the derivation of a specification and ending with its hardware implementation, analog hard-wired, feed-forward neural networks with on-chip back-propagation learning are designed in their entirety. On-chip learning is necessary in circumstances where fixed weight configurations cannot be used. It is also useful for the elimination of most mis-matches and parameter tolerances that occur in hard-wired neural network chips. Fully analog neural networks have several advantages over other implementations: low chip area, low power consumption, and high speed operation. Feed-Forward Neural Networks is an excellent source of reference and may be used as a text for advanced courses.
