A War On People

by Jarrett Zigon, release date 2018-11-20, A War On People Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A War On People books, If we see that our contemporary condition is one of war and widely diffused complexity, how do we understand our most basic ethical motivations? What might be the aims of our political activity? A War on People takes up these questions and offers a glimpse of a possible alternative future in this ethnographically and theoretically rich examination of the activity of some unlikely political actors: users of heroin and crack cocaine, both active and former. The result is a groundbreaking book on how anti–drug war political activity offers transformative processes that are termed worldbuilding and enacts nonnormative, open, and relationally inclusive alternatives to such key concepts as community, freedom, and care. A War That Can T Be Won

by Tony Payan, release date 2013-10-17, A War That Can T Be Won Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A War That Can T Be Won books, More than forty years have passed since President Richard Nixon described illegal drugs as “public enemy number one” and declared a “War on Drugs.” Recently the United Nations Global Commission on Drug Policy declared that “the global war on drugs has failed with devastating consequences for individuals and societies around the world.” Arguably, no other country has suffered as much from the War on Drugs as Mexico. From 2006 to 2012 alone, at least sixty thousand people have died. Some experts have said that the actual number is more than one hundred thousand. Because the war was conceived and structured by US policymakers and officials, many commentators believe that the United States is deeply implicated in the bloodshed. A War that Can’t Be Won is the first book to include contributions from scholars on both sides of the US–Mexico border. It provides a unique breadth of perspective on the many dimensions of the societal crisis that affects residents of both nations—particularly those who live and work in the borderlands. It also proposes practical steps toward solving a crisis that shows no signs of abating under current policies. Each chapter is based on well-documented data, including previously unavailable evidence that was obtained through freedom-of-information inquiries in Mexico. By bringing together views from both sides of the border, as well as from various academic disciplines, this volume offers a much wider view of a complex problem—and possible solutions.

by Colleen Cowles, release date 2019-10-11, War On Us How The War On Drugs And Myths About Addiction Have Created A War On All Of Us Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download War On Us How The War On Drugs And Myths About Addiction Have Created A War On All Of Us books, While the War on Drugs may have sounded like a good idea at one time, the consequences have been catastrophic. From physicians persecuted for providing health care to their patients to parents grieving the loss of their children to overdose or prison -- we've all become victims of this war. Our health, our families, our assets, our safety, and our freedom are at risk: One in three adults in the U.S. now has a criminal record. Patients with severe illnesses or chronic pain are denied access to proven pain medications. Over a trillion in taxpayer dollars in the U.S. alone has 'bought' the highest drug use, the highest overdose and the highest incarceration rates in the world. In War on Us, Colleen Cowles raises the alarm and offers practical, proven reforms. There are answers, as long as we have the will to implement change. It's time to end the War on Drugs -- and the war on all of us. This book is the roadmap to do just that.

The War On Drugs The Worst Addiction Of All

by Max Hartstein, release date 2003-01-01, The War On Drugs The Worst Addiction Of All Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The War On Drugs The Worst Addiction Of All books, This book is a re-thinking of the destructive effects of prohibition, the so-called "War On Drugs". It shows the fallacies of our present policies and the impossibility of winning a war in which the government has taken both sides, one overtly and the other covertly. This book also shows the terrible destructive human price that we as a country are paying to sustain this ineffective, cannibalistic and destructive set of punitive laws we now live under. The war on drugs is the contemporary moral equivalent of the Spanish Inquisition, and it is as well a huge multi-billion dollar tax-payer subsidy to organized crime.

Exile Nation

by Charles Shaw, release date 2012-04-12, Exile Nation Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Exile Nation books, “Exile Nation tells the dirty story none of us really wants to hear . . . Shaw ‘did time’ in prison and lived to write about it.” —John Perkins, New York Times bestselling author Originally published as a series on Reality Sandwich and The Huffington Post, Exile Nation is a work of “spiritual journalism” that grapples with the themes of drugs, prisons, politics, and spirituality through Shaw’s personal story. In 2005, Shaw was arrested in Chicago for possession of MDMA and was sent to prison for one year. Shaw not only looks at the current prison system and its many destructive flaws, but also at how American culture regards criminals and those who live outside of society. He begins his story at Chicago’s Cook County Jail, and uses its sprawling, highly corrupt infrastructure to build upon his overarching argument. This is an insider’s look at the forgotten or excluded segments of our society, the disenfranchised lifestyles and subcultures existing in what Shaw calls the “exile nation.” They are those who lost some or all of their ability to participate in the full opportunities of society because of an arrest or conviction for a non-violent, drug-related, or “moral offense,” those who cannot participate in the credit economy, and those with lifestyle choices that involve radical politics and sexuality, cognitive liberty, and unorthodox spiritual and healing practices. Together they make up the new “evolutionary counterculture” of the most significant epoch in human history. “Extraordinary.” —Chicago Tribune

Download Good Nazis In Office Good Niggers In Jail books, These forty short, intense essays are Volume One of The Anti-Cyclops Papers. Most were published as they appear as a column in The Valley Explorer, a Las Vegas independent newspaper. The Cyclopes have singleness of vision, and so lack perspective. Sons of the Titans, weaponsmakers to the Gods, workers at the forge and keepers of sheep, they dine on human flesh. They command large parts of the American government and the structure of society, and they wear the cassock of its major religions. The illicit union of Puritan sects with authoritarian statists has produced the horrors of the self-flagellating War On Drugs, and the self-righteous police-science penal-security mentality of the behavioralist child propaganda day-camps of our public school system. You can't teach an eagle to fly in a cage... especially if you are training him to be a sheep.

Addiction Is A Choice

by Jeffrey A. Schaler, release date 2011-09-30, Addiction Is A Choice Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Addiction Is A Choice books, Politicians and the media tell us that people who take drugs, including alcohol or nicotine, cannot help themselves. They are supposedly victims of the disease of 'addiciton', and they need 'treatment'. The same goes for sex addicts, shopping addicts, food addicts, gambling addicts, or even addicts to abusive relationships. This theory, which grew out of the Temperance movement and was developed and disseminated by the religious cult known as Alcoholics Anonymous, has not been confirmed by any factual research. Numerous scientific studies show that 'addicts' are in control of their behavior. Contrary to the shrill, mindless propaganda of the 'war on drugs', very few of the people who use alcohol, marijuana, heroin, or cocaine will ever become 'addicted', and of those who do become heavy drug users, most will matrue out of it in time, without treatment. Research indicates that 'treatment' is completely ineffective, an absolute waste of time and money. Instead of looking at drub addiction as a disease, Dr. Schaler proposes that we view it as willful commitment or dedication, akin to joining a religion or pursuing a romantic involvement. While heavy consumption of drugs is often foolish and self-destructive, it is a matter of personal choice.
