Das Empfehlungssystem empfiehlt Produktkomponenten zum Austausch, die ursächlich für einen Qualitätsmangel am Produkt sind. Dabei wird die Identifikation der Komponenten, als ein maschinelles Klassifikationsproblem formalisiert. Datencharakteristika haben einen signifikanten Einfluss auf die Leistungsfähigkeit von maschinellen Klassifikationsverfahren und somit auch auf die Praxistauglichkeit. Daher werden die analytischen Herausforderungen von qualitätsbezogenen Fertigungsdaten aus der betrieblichen Praxis vorgestellt, die maschinelle Klassifikationsverfahren negativ beeinflussen können. Es wird dann untersucht, inwieweit existierende Lernverfahren und Datenvorverarbeitungstechniken diese Herausforderungen bewältigen können. Anschließend wird ein Klassifikationssystem vorgestellt, das Domänenwissen zur systematischen Aufbereitung der Daten nutzt und damit zu besseren Ergebnissen führt. Das entwickelte maschinelle Klassifikationssystem wird erstmals bei einem der weltweit größten Nutzfahrzeug-Hersteller im End-of-Line-Prüffeld von komplexen Montageprodukten eingesetzt. Das Klassifikationssystem unterstützt erfahrene Arbeitskräfte bei der Identifikation von fehlerbehafteten Komponenten, die ursächlich für einen Qualitätsmangel am Produkt sind, um so die Anzahl an ineffektiven Nacharbeiten zu reduzieren. Die Erprobung des Klassifikationssystems für das Fallbeispiel zeigt seine Leistungsfähigkeit. Die Vorhersagegenauigkeit des Klassifikationssystems übertrifft die Genauigkeit von Standardverfahren.
