Reflections On Cultural Policy

by Evan Alderson, release date 2006-01-01, Reflections On Cultural Policy Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Reflections On Cultural Policy books, Looks at the roles various world views have played in generating cultural policies at various times in Western history. Evan Alderson’s introduction places the work within its social, political and historical framework. Robin Blaser addresses the problem of how we can begin to locate a responsible cultural position at the present time. The volume’s historical progression begins with John Humphrey looking at the relation of arts and state in Imperial Rome. Haijo Westra focusses on the relation of language and culture in the medieval world. Jonathan Bordo examines the emergence of the individually framed picture in the Renaissance. Steven Cole examines the artistic autonomy of English Romanticism. Hazard Adams outlines a conception of cultural policy through William Blake. Cultural policy is brought closer to the Canadian context with Gordon Fearn’s discussion of communications policy in Canada. Anthony Welch takes up the process of re-comprehending culture within the revolution of communications by examining revolutionary and pre-revolutionary Iran. The two final essays take up the challenge of positing the hope of the post-modern. Barry Cooper begins his examination of the relevant part of post-modernism in the sixth century A.D. Robert Kroetsch sees only a longing for order that must be abandoned so that we may measure the depth of our uncertainties and learn to converse across them. Robin Blaser reminds us in his “Afterthoughts” that much of our current unease stems, not from too many differences, but from too few. This volume speaks in a single voice both to those interested in the pragmatics of current cultural policy and to those whose primary allegiance is to the life of the imagination. It is not just a scholarly exercise, but also a call for action — to a more comprehensive and informed engagement with our present cultural condition.

Reflections On The Concept Of Coherency For A Policy On Psychoactive Substances And Beyond

by Richard Muscat, release date 2012, Reflections On The Concept Of Coherency For A Policy On Psychoactive Substances And Beyond Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Reflections On The Concept Of Coherency For A Policy On Psychoactive Substances And Beyond books, How are the problems associated with different psychoactive substances, illicit drugs, alcohol and tobacco described? How is the nature of the "problem" shaped by research evidence, media coverage, cultural mores and social, economic and political considerations? To what extent does policy reflect a consistent approach to different psychoactive substances? What objectives do policies on drugs, alcohol and tobacco pursue? Do the structures in place support the co-ordination and/or integration of these policies? The issue of psychoactive substance policies (and beyond) is currently at the forefront of policy making in a number of countries, including those participating in this study, together with the issue of how such a policy may be implemented in a coherent manner. Continuing the work carried out in two previous publications, From a policy on illegal drugs to a policy on psychoactive substances (2008) and Towards an integrated policy on psychoactive substances: a theoretical and empirical analysis (2010), this work attempts to put into perspective the salient points of what may be termed a coherent policy on psychoactive substances and beyond. It proposes six indicators, around which the concept of coherency is articulated: conceptualisation, policy context, legislative and regulatory framework, strategic framework, responses/interventions, and structures and resources. The results of this study may be a surprise to some in the field, and tie in with broader efforts by the European Union and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in the sphere of policy coherence for development. The Council of Europe has 47 member states, covering virtually the entire continent of Europe. It seeks to develop common democratic and legal principles based on the European Convention on Human Rights and other reference texts on the protection of individuals. Ever since it was founded in 1949, in the aftermath of the Second World War, the Council of Europe has symbolised reconciliation. Book jacket.

Die Idee Der Kulturhauptstadt Europas

by Jürgen Mittag, release date 2008, Die Idee Der Kulturhauptstadt Europas Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.

Against The Barbarians And Other Reflections On Familiar Themes

by Melvin Eustace Bradford, release date 1992, Against The Barbarians And Other Reflections On Familiar Themes Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Against The Barbarians And Other Reflections On Familiar Themes books, This book may be hazardous to the ideologies of the 'politically correct' writes Walter Sullivan of M.E. Bradford's new book. Those who are not familiar with Bradford's work should welcome these essays on subjects as varied as the ongoing battle over the literary canon or popular stereotypes of the framers of the Constitution. A grave disease now infects the standard approaches to most of the subjects confronted here, writes Bradford. An attitude including scientism, positivism, meliorism, and irreligion - is now established among us as an orhtodoxy. Here Bradford challenges the new orthodoxy, attacking what he sees as oversimplification by its modernist proponents.
