The History Of The Book In The Middle East

by Geoffrey Roper, release date 2017-03-02, The History Of The Book In The Middle East Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The History Of The Book In The Middle East books, This selection of papers by scholarly specialists offers an introduction to the history of the book and book culture in West Asia and North Africa from antiquity to the 20th century. The flourishing and long-lived manuscript tradition is discussed in its various aspects - social and economic as well as technical and aesthetic. The very early but abortive introduction of printing - long before Gutenberg - and the eventual, belated acceptance of the printed book and the development of print culture are explored in further groups of papers. Cultural, aesthetic, technological, religious, social, political and economic factors are all considered throughout the volume. Although the articles reflect the predominance in the area of Muslim books - Arabic, Persian and Turkish - the Hebrew, Syriac and Armenian contributions are also discussed. The editor’s introduction provides a survey of the field from the origins of writing to the modern literary and intellectual revivals.

Education And Learning In The Early Islamic World

by Claude Gilliot, release date 2017-05-15, Education And Learning In The Early Islamic World Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Education And Learning In The Early Islamic World books, Studying education and learning in the formative period of Islam is not immediately easy, since the sources for this are relatively late and frequently project backwards to the earlier period the assumptions and conditions of their own day. The studies in this volume have been selected for the critical approaches and methods of their authors, and are arranged under five headings: the pedagogical tradition; scholarship and attestation; orality and literacy; authorship and transmission; and libraries. Together with the editor’s introductory essay, they present a broad picture of the beginnings and evolution of education and learning in the Islamic world.

The Elements Of Avicenna S Physics

by Andreas Lammer, release date 2018-02-05, The Elements Of Avicenna S Physics Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Elements Of Avicenna S Physics books, This study is the first comprehensive analysis of the physical theory of the Islamic philosopher Avicenna (d. 1037). It seeks to understand his contribution against the developments within the preceding Greek and Arabic intellectual milieus, and to appreciate his philosophy as such by emphasising his independence as a critical and systematic thinker. Exploring Avicenna’s method of "teaching and learning," it investigates the implications of his account of the natural body as a three-dimensionally extended composite of matter and form, and examines his views on nature as a principle of motion and his analysis of its relation to soul. Moreover, it demonstrates how Avicenna defends the Aristotelian conception of place against the strident criticism of his predecessors, among other things, by disproving the existence of void and space. Finally, it sheds new light on Avicenna’s account of the essence and the existence of time. For the first time taking into account the entire range of Avicenna’s major writings, this study fills a gap in our understanding both of the history of natural philosophy in general and of the philosophy of Avicenna in particular.

Grundriss Der Arabischen Philologie Sprachwissenschaft

by Wolfdietrich Fischer, release date 1982, Grundriss Der Arabischen Philologie Sprachwissenschaft Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Grundriss Der Arabischen Philologie Sprachwissenschaft books, English description: This volume deals with the linguistic aspects of the Arabic language: The reader learns about the history and structure of the Arabic language, about the history of the Arabis script as well as about different linguistic historical documents, such as inscriptions, coins, papyrus, and manuscripts.
